— FOR INTERNAL DOOR MANUFACTURERS

3D configurator
for doors
inside the home.

A flat refurbishment has eight doors and the owner chooses them from a catalogue on a phone, in a corridor that has not even been painted. The builder reads out leaf sizes when they were structural openings, and nobody offers the bathroom privacy lock or the magnetic latch.

— WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU

One corridor,
eight openings
and not one door chosen

The refurbishment is in its third week. The builder has taken down partitions, put up others and now has eight openings waiting for doors: six passage doors, the bathroom one and one in the kitchen where the owner wants a barn-style sliding door. He shows her on his phone the catalogue of the merchant he works with, with photos of doors on their own against a white background. She hesitates between the flush one and the three-groove one, between oak and matt white, and asks whether the black handle will look too dark.

The builder has no time for that conversation: the plumbers are waiting for him in the bathroom. He calls the merchant and asks for “eight 725 doors in oak, grooved”, with the measurements he jotted down from the opening freehand. Nobody clarifies whether the width he is reading out is the leaf or the structural opening, what leaf height the sliding door takes, or whether the bathroom needs a privacy lock. The merchant passes the order to your factory exactly as they understood it on the phone.

Weeks later the door sets arrive. One does not fit because the opening came out tight, the bathroom one has no privacy lock and the owner, seeing them fitted, says she would have liked them better with the moulded architrave. The complaint goes up from the builder to the merchant and from the merchant to you, each passing the blame around, and the handover of the flat is delayed. Nobody offered her concealed hinges or a silent magnetic latch, although she would probably have added them had she seen them.

— WHERE THE SALE LEAKS AWAY

The bottlenecks
you will recognise
straight away.

“I still do not know whether I want them flush or with grooves”

Eight doors, eight doubts

A full refurbishment takes seven or eight doors and the owner chooses them all at once, without having seen a single one fitted. They hesitate between models, finishes, handles and architraves, and the builder acts as adviser with no time and no samples. The decision is put off and the job waits for the doors, which tend to be the last thing to arrive.

What it costs youJobs that drag on waiting for a decision nobody is helping to make.

“I asked you for 725… leaf or opening?”

Leaf and structural opening mixed up

The leaf width, the door set width and the structural opening are different measurements, and over the phone they get mixed up. The builder measures the opening, reads out a number and the merchant understands another. With heights of 2,030, 2,100 or 2,400, the confusion grows. The mistake shows up when the door set is fitted, once it has already been made and delivered.

What it costs youDoor sets that do not fit, carriage both ways and late deliveries.

“Was the bathroom one not supposed to have a privacy lock?”

Extras that never get offered

Concealed hinges, a silent magnetic latch, a privacy lock for the bathroom: small extras that improve the door and the value of the order. But in a quick phone call nobody mentions them, and the owner does not know they exist until they see them in someone else's home. They only get sold when the customer asks for them.

What it costs youYou stop selling what the owner would have added had they seen it.

“It looked lighter in the photo”

Finishes chosen from a photo

Natural oak, walnut, stone grey, sage green: on a phone screen and against a white background, finishes mislead. The owner does not see the door in their own corridor, nor with the handle and the architrave they have chosen. When the fitted door is not what they expected, the complaint ends up with the manufacturer.

What it costs youColour complaints that are not a defect, but get handled as though they were.

“Give me a price for the eight and I will let you know”

Doors, the item the builder does not control

The builder needs to close the quote for the refurbishment and the doors are an item he does not control: it depends on the merchant giving him a price with model, sizes, finish and ironmongery. Every change by the owner is another call and another wait, while the rest of the quote is ready and the customer is asking about it.

What it costs youRefurbishments signed later, or with another manufacturer's doors.

A three-groove internal door in natural oak with a black lever handle and a flat architrave, seen in 3D
Answers · Eight doors, eight doubts

The owner chooses their doors looking at their own corridor

They go from the flush one to the three-groove one, the glazed one or the barn-style slider, change the finish and the handle and narrow it down to three candidates; when they compare them, what changes between them is highlighted. With the builder's phone and augmented reality, they place the door at real size in their corridor. The decision is made during one site visit, not over three weeks.

Answers · Leaf and structural opening mixed up

Leaf and structural opening, always together and in writing

When the leaf width and height are chosen, the configurator works out the approximate structural opening and the clear passage width, and shows them together on the data sheet and over the 3D. The builder checks his opening before ordering, and the order carries both measurements in writing so nobody has to interpret them.

Concealed hinges and privacy lock, in view and with their price

Concealed hinges, a silent magnetic latch and a bathroom privacy lock appear as options, with the indicative price beside them. The owner opens and closes the door in 3D, sees the difference and decides. It no longer depends on the builder remembering to raise it in the middle of the job.

The finish is seen with its handle and its architrave

Oak, walnut, matt white or sage green are seen on the whole door, with the black, stainless steel or brushed gold handle and the flat, moulded or flush architrave that has been chosen. The owner turns the door, zooms in on the details and saves an image to show at home.

The builder closes the price for the doors from the job

He states how many identical doors he needs, from 1 to 30, and the indicative price comes out with your price list and his margin if he is inside his trade area. The order sheet carries door sets, handles, hinges and latches all counted, ready for the merchant or for your ERP.

— FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What we
get asked.

There are more short answers in frequently asked questions about 3D configurators and who we are in 3D configurator company.

Does it work out the structural opening with our door set sizes?

Yes. In the demo, each leaf width and height gives an approximate structural opening and an example clear passage width. In your configurator your own door set, rebate and architrave sizes are used, so the figure the builder sees is the one your factory applies and the order carries a consistent leaf and opening.

Does it include sliding doors?

Yes. The demo includes the barn-style slider alongside the flush door, the three-groove one and the glazed one, and it is shown open and closed in 3D with its finish and its handle. If you make other sliding models, they are loaded with their sizes and their rules when your configurator is developed on your catalogue.

How much does an internal door configurator cost?

Three things move it: the number of models, finishes and leaf sizes; the ironmongery and its rules; and whether you want an area for merchants and builders or a link to your ERP. As a guide: developments start from €6,500 for a visual configurator of one product family; most projects for manufacturers fall between €14,500 and €35,000, depending on the catalogue, the rules and the integrations, plus maintenance from €190 a month. As soon as we have seen your catalogue and your price list, we pin it down in a written offer.

Can our merchants and builders use it with their own prices?

Yes. Each merchant or refurbishment company works in their own area: they see your price list with their margin applied and hand the owner a PDF with their logo. If you change a price or withdraw a model, you do it once and it reaches everyone, and whoever writes to you from the website is passed to the nearest merchant.

Can the owner see the door in their own home?

Yes. From their phone, with a QR code, they open the configured door and, in augmented reality, see it at real size in the opening or in the corridor, with no app to install. That way they decide finish, handle and architrave without anyone having to take samples to the job.

What information reaches the factory with each order?

The order sheet with model, leaf size, approximate structural opening, finish, handle, architrave and ironmongery, with quantities: door sets, handles, concealed hinges and magnetic latches. It comes with the PDF showing the door in 3D. With your ERP linked, it goes into the factory without anyone typing it again.
