A pair of 20-foot prefabricated office modules with a porch and windows in the 3D configurator

— FOR MODULE AND SITE CABIN MANUFACTURERS

3D configurator
for prefabricated
modules.

“I need a site cabin for Monday.” The contractor calls on a Tuesday, your sales rep sends photos from another site, works it out by hand and, in the rush, the crane lorry gets left out of the price. Better for the site manager to put the set together himself and see the total with transport and unloading from the start.

— WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU

A site cabin
for Monday
and four phone calls

Tuesday, half past nine. The site manager of a contractor calls from a plot that has just been fenced off: they start on Monday with 25 workers and he needs an office for himself and the site supervision team, changing rooms, a toilet and a store for the tools. He does not know whether that is three modules or five, or whether they will fit side by side next to the tower crane. He asks the same as on the previous job: how much, when, and what he has to have ready. Your sales rep takes it down and promises the quote that afternoon.

That afternoon becomes the next day. It has to be decided whether the office goes in one 20-foot module or two joined together, how many windows each one takes, whether the changing room needs reinforced insulation because the job runs through a winter, whether an accessible ramp is needed. The sales rep sends photos of a site from two years ago, with different cladding and a different door, and a catalogue PDF with measurements in feet that the site manager forwards to his foreman without opening.

When the quote finally comes out, the contractor compares it with another, cheaper offer. Cheaper because it does not include the crane lorry, the unloading or the installation, which yours does, and nobody sees that at first glance. Or the other way round: yours goes out without transport, is accepted, and the lorry comes out of your margin. And on Monday, at the plot, there is no levelled slab and no services, because nobody gave written notice that the module needed them.

— WHERE THE SALE LEAKS AWAY

The bottlenecks
you will recognise
straight away.

“The same as last time, but with two offices and a bigger changing room.”

Every site asks for a different set

A site with 25 workers does not ask for the same as one with eight. Office, changing room, toilet and store are solved with 10, 20 or 40-foot modules, on their own or joined, with more or fewer windows and with a solid, glazed or double-leaf door. Every combination is a phone call, a sketch and a price the sales rep builds from scratch.

What it costs youThe quote arrives when the contractor has already ordered from someone else.

“But is the transport included or not?”

Quotes with the transport forgotten

Crane lorry, unloading and installation change the total a great deal depending on the distance and the access to the site. If they are included and the competition leaves them out, you look expensive without being so. If you forget them, the order is signed and the lorry comes out of your margin. Either way, the customer is comparing prices that are not comparable.

What it costs youYou lose the job for looking expensive, or you win it and lose money.

“From a photo I just cannot picture it with the porch.”

Customers who cannot picture the module

Catalogue photos show a white sheet-metal module on some anonymous plot. The customer wants to know how it looks in anthracite grey, with timber cladding, a pitched roof and a porch over the door, especially when it is a modular home or an office open to the public. Without seeing it, they ask for more photos and put the decision off.

What it costs youEvery photo of another job adds a day and no certainty at all.

“Nobody told us we had to lay a slab.”

What the site has to prepare arrives too late

The module needs a levelled slab and the services waiting. If that notice goes in the small print or in a phone call, on Monday the lorry arrives, the ground is not ready and the unloading is postponed. The transport is paid for all the same, the fitter comes back another day, and the site manager remembers you as the supplier who delayed his start.

What it costs youA second trip and a contractor who does not call again.

“Purchasing has to see it, I will let you know.”

Quotes that stall in purchasing

The site manager decides what he needs, but the purchasing department signs, and they have not set foot on the plot. They receive a three-page PDF with references and measurements in feet and do not understand why the office needs two air conditioning units. The question goes back to the site manager, from the site manager to your sales rep and from there back to purchasing.

What it costs youDays of emails to approve something that was already decided.

What it costs you

your own numbers.

Between the site manager's first call and the signed quote there are sketches, revisions and emails with purchasing, and those hours are paid for even when someone else gets the job. Put your own figures in here.

Configurator screen with the use, the size in feet and the joined modules of a prefabricated office set
Answers · Every site asks for a different set

The site manager puts his set together without waiting for the sales rep

He chooses the use, the size and how many modules are joined, and adds windows, a door, air conditioning, reinforced insulation or an accessible ramp. The 3D changes with every decision and so does the indicative price. Your sales rep receives the configuration already done, with the contact assigned to their area, and only has to confirm it.

Configurator by use, size and joined modules
Summary of a set of two 20-foot modules with an indicative price, technical data and an order sheet for the factory
Answers · Quotes with the transport forgotten

The price already includes the lorry and the unloading

Transport and unloading are part of the indicative price from the very first configuration; in your version, installation too if you offer it, calculated with your price list. The customer compares complete totals and your sales rep no longer has to remember. If the competitor's offer comes out cheaper because it leaves out the lorry, the site manager already knows why.

Answers · Customers who cannot picture the module

They see it with its cladding, its roof and its porch

Sheet metal, timber or grey composite; flat or pitched roof; eight colours; a porch over the door and solar panels on the roof. The customer turns the module, checks its height against a human figure and, from their phone, places it at real size on their plot in augmented reality, with no app to download.

The slab and the services, flagged from the very first PDF

The technical data for the set includes the floor area, the external dimensions, the delivery time and what the site has to provide: a levelled slab and the services. They go in the PDF the site manager downloads, in writing and from day one, and not in a phone call on Friday afternoon.

Purchasing sees exactly what the site manager saw

The site manager sends an image of the set, the PDF with the price or the link to open it on a phone with a QR code. Purchasing turns it round, compares up to three versions with the differences highlighted and understands what they are paying for. You receive the order sheet with references, ready for the factory.

— FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What we
get asked.

There are more short answers in frequently asked questions about 3D configurators and who we are in 3D configurator company.

What can the customer choose in a prefabricated module configurator?

In the demo they choose the use (office, changing room, store, toilet or modular home), the size in 10, 20 or 40 feet, from one to four joined modules, colour, windows per module, door, cladding and roof. Then air conditioning, standard or reinforced insulation, porch, accessible ramp and solar panels. In your version, the options are the ones in your catalogue.

Does the price include transport and unloading?

Yes. In the demo, the indicative price adds transport and unloading to the module and its extras, so the customer compares totals and not just the price of the box. In your version it is calculated with your price list, with installation included if you offer it, and with your rules, for example by area or by number of modules.

How much does a 3D prefabricated module configurator cost?

As a guide: developments start from €6,500 for a visual configurator of one product family; most projects for manufacturers fall between €14,500 and €35,000, depending on the catalogue, the rules and the integrations, plus maintenance from €190 a month. The final figure depends on how many sizes, uses and extras you want to make configurable, on whether it includes an area for distributors with their margin and their brand, and on whether it connects to your ERP or CRM. We pin it down after seeing your catalogue and your price list.

Does it also work for selling modular homes to private customers?

Yes. “Modular home” is one of the uses, and for a private customer what counts most is the timber or composite cladding, the porch and the roof: pitched, or flat with solar panels. They turn it round, compare it with another version and place it at real size on their plot from their phone before asking you to visit.

Can the customer see the module on their plot or on their site?

Yes, in augmented reality from their phone and with no app to install: they scan the QR code, point at the ground and the module appears at real size. It is useful for checking whether it fits next to the tower crane, where the door ends up or how it looks from the street.

What do you need from us to get started?

Your sizes and uses, your manufacturing rules (how many modules can be joined, how many windows each one takes, which extras are compatible), the price list with transport and installation, and who covers each area. With that we adapt the configurator, the order sheet with your references and the way contacts are shared out.
