— GUIDE FOR MANUFACTURERS · 2026

What a manufacturer needs
to build
a 3D configurator.

The list of what you have to send us is short and you already have almost all of it: the catalogue with its references, the sizes and the rules that today live in the foreman's head, the price list, the photos of the finishes and, if they exist, the 3D files or the drawings. This guide says what each thing is, which format works and what happens if it is missing. What arrives on day one shortens the lead time; what arrives last stretches it.

— THE LIST

The seven things
a manufacturer gathers.

In the order we ask for them. The first three are the ones that set the lead time.

01 · THE CATALOGUE

Families, options and references

Families, types, sizes, materials, colours and extras that you really manufacture or sell, with their references. The PDF catalogue and the item list from the management software will do. Anything not on the list cannot be chosen in the configurator.

02 · SIZES AND RULES

What can be made and what cannot

Minimum and maximum sizes per series and opening, weight per sash, combinations that do not exist, mandatory accessories depending on the use. Many are not written down: we get them out in one or two meetings with whoever knows them and put them in a table you review.

03 · THE PRICE LIST

In our template

Price per module, per metre, per finish, per extra and per installation, with discounts per distributor and by volume. We give you a template; a price list in a PDF or an unstructured sheet has to be retyped. See from the manufacturer's Excel to the web configurator.

04 · THE FINISHES

Photos or samples, with reference

A flat, well-lit photo of each decor, fabric, colour or texture, with its reference and, for boards, its matching edging. If there are no photos, physical samples. Each true-to-life finish is priced separately, at €30 to €120 per finish (or more).

05 · THE 3D OR THE DRAWINGS

What speeds up the modelling

3D files of your parts if you have them (from design or from the fittings supplier), or dimensioned drawings. Starting from clean files speeds things up; rebuilding from photos adds hours. Modelling is priced separately, at €30 to €120 per part (or more). See 3D product modelling for a configurator.

06 · ORDERS ALREADY MANUFACTURED

Two or three, with their sheet

Real orders with their order sheet or workshop sheet. They are used to validate rules, price and documents: the configurator has to produce the same sheet for each one before it is published.

07 · BRAND, TEXTS AND WHO DECIDES

Logo, texts and one person

Logo, brand colours and the texts you want on the PDF and in the confirmation email; the list of distributors or sales reps with their area and their email, if they are going to have an area; and one person on your side who reviews each version and decides. That is what saves the most weeks.

— WHAT IS NOT NEEDED

What is not needed
and many people think it is.

Four things we are not going to ask you for.

Rebuilding the website. The configurator is embedded in the website you already have with one line of code, in each distributor's website and on a tablet. If you sell through an online shop, the add-to-basket step is connected in the project. See 3D configurator for online shops.

Modelling anything yourselves. We do the 3D from your files, drawings or photos. If the product is generated from its dimensions (pallets, kitchen and wardrobe modules, shelving), there is no need to model every reference.

Having the management software ready. While there is no connection, every request stays in the panel with its configuration, reaches you by email and exports to CSV. The connection to your software is developed in the project when the time comes. See integrating a 3D configurator with your ERP.

Having all the rules written down. We get them out with you. What is needed is for someone from the workshop or the technical office to spend two meetings explaining them and an hour reviewing the table.

— EXAMPLES

What we ask for
in three different products.

The same thing, under another name, in each sector. Examples from the open demos.

Detail of the 3D window configurator from the demo with the profile, the glass and the fitting

Windows and enclosures

Series with their profiles and openings; maximum widths and weights per sash; glazing and roller shutters with their limits; the price list per series, size and extra; the profile deductions for the cutting list if the configurator is technical; three manufactured orders with their workshop sheet.

Detail of the 3D sofa configurator from the demo with the modules and the chosen fabric

Sofas, beds and upholstery

Modules and sizes of each model; the fabric families with their photos, references and surcharges; the accessories; the price list per module and fabric family; the 3D design file or photos and drawings of each module.

Detail of the 3D industrial shelving configurator from the demo with the frames, beams and protectors

Shelving and industrial equipment

Frames, beams and levels with their loads; the height and load-per-level rules; the accessories (protectors, anchors) and when they go in; the price list per component; the order sheet by reference and quantity as the factory reads it.

Development starts from €6,500 for a visual configurator of one product family; most manufacturer projects fall between €14,500 and €35,000, depending on catalogue, rules and integrations, plus maintenance from €190/month. With the list above in hand, the proposal carries figures, not estimates.

— FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What we get asked
about what is needed.

There are more short answers in frequently asked questions about 3D configurators and who we are in 3D configurator company.

What do we have to send for you to make us a proposal?

A sample: the catalogue or the family you would start with, a sample of the 3D or the drawings and the price list. With that we close the level, the parts and finishes to model, the lead time with a date and the price. The rest is gathered during the first two weeks of the project.

Do we need to have the products in 3D?

No. If you have 3D files, the modelling goes faster; if not, the product is modelled from drawings and photos and priced separately, at €30 to €120 per part or finish (or more). Products generated from their dimensions, like pallets or wardrobe modules, do not need every reference modelled.

What format does the price list have to be in?

In our spreadsheet template, which we give you at the start: price per module, metre, finish, extra and installation, with discounts per distributor and by volume. A price list in PDF or without structure has to be retyped and delays the price tests.

What if our manufacturing rules are not written down?

That is normal. We get them out in one or two meetings with whoever knows them (workshop or technical office) and put them in a table you review. Then they are tested with your orders already manufactured before publishing.

Do we have to change the website?

No. The configurator is embedded in the website you already have with one line of code, and also in each distributor's website and on a tablet. If you sell through an online shop, the add-to-basket step is connected in the project.

How much does a 3D configurator cost?

Development starts from €6,500 for a visual configurator of one product family; most manufacturer projects fall between €14,500 and €35,000, depending on catalogue, rules and integrations, plus maintenance from €190/month. 3D modelling and finishes are priced separately, per product.
